Honold’s schoggi tram

02 Nov 2017

At this time of the year, the Chocolate Tram (Schoggitram) takes to the streets of Zurich for a short period of ten daysthis year’s rides took place between October 27 to November 5and have once again been organized/sponsored by Honold Confectionery.

Honold has been operating in Zurich since 1905 and is proud of the manual manufacture of all its productsfrom the tastiest truffles to delicious cakes.

In the last few years, whenever I tried to get tickets for the Schoggi tram, by the time I logged on the site to buy the tickets,  it was too late and the tickets   were already sold out. This time I finally managed to get them, although not for  the day I had wanted. But no problem, I got the last two tickets so I was happy. So yes, the tickets sell out quickly so you should plan ahead and buy them here .
On the day of your ride, we are asked to arrive 5 minutes in advance because the tram leaves on time, like everything here. We line up outside the tram and impatiently wait to be called by name. The staff takes uto our seats(preassigned but can be switched depending on availability and mood of the other passangers). It’s a vintage tram where the chairs are grouped around tables seating 2 to 4 people and two seats are available for singles. The train runs from 1.30pm to 6pm.

The tour costs 10 francs for adults and 7 francs for children of up to 12 years of age and includes hot chocolate, a cakeand super tasty chocolate truffles. The assortment and, more importantly, the taste of hot cocoa and truffles are impressive, even for those of used to (or spoiled by) some fine Swiss chocolate.

The route lasts 30 minutes and starts at Bellevue Square, at the same stop from which the famous Märlitram and Fonduetram depart, passing through scenes already well known to locals like the River Limmat, leaving for Central stop, then making its way over to Bahnhofstrasse and running  toward Lake Zürich. From there, we head toward Engepassing in front of the flagship Honold shop and return via Paradeplatz back to Bellevue. Time passes quickly for those who take delight in sipping a cup or two of hot chocolate and long enough to keep the children entertained.

A friendly warning for mothers with very young children:the space on the tram is quite constrained and there is no space for strollers.

If your family isa fan of chocolate(likemine), don’t missthis experience next year and make sure to plan ahead.
Love,
Rita
